Long-range propellers are selected for minimum induced power losses at cruise thrust rather than peak performance. Props 6" and larger operating at low disc loading (low thrust-per-area) are inherently more efficient. Bi-blade designs minimise profile drag; the trade-off is less thrust authority at zero throttle, which rarely matters for GPS-guided cruise missions.
Larger props at lower RPM are the most effective single change to improve long-range efficiency — the physics of propeller disc area favour larger diameters at cruise thrust.
